Hawks’ Jalen Johnson Gives Back Through FlexWork Sports

Atlanta Hawks forward Jalen Johnson traded the NBA spotlight for an afternoon focused on the next generation, connecting with young basketball players during a special FlexWork Sports experience Saturday at Suwanee Sports Academy.

The event gave young athletes an opportunity to experience more than just basketball instruction. Johnson joined FlexWork Sports coaches for a high-energy program featuring on-court drills, demonstrations and hands-on interaction designed to give participants an experience they could remember long after leaving the gym.

But the afternoon wasn’t only about jump shots and basketball skills.

Johnson had the opportunity to interact with participants and their families through Q&A sessions, photos and casual conversations, giving young players a chance to learn directly from an NBA player who understands the work required to reach basketball’s highest level.

For Johnson, spending time with young athletes also provided an opportunity to share some of the lessons he has learned throughout his own basketball journey.

The Hawks forward has continued to grow into an important piece of Atlanta’s future, but his road to success is also a reminder that development doesn’t happen overnight. Events like Saturday’s allow professional athletes to pull back the curtain and show young players that what fans see on game night is only a small part of what it takes to compete at the NBA level.

FlexWork Sports focuses on creating youth sports experiences by partnering with professional athletes while making the events engaging for both participants and their families. Saturday’s event accomplished exactly that, combining basketball with access to one of Atlanta’s own.

And for the young athletes in attendance, sometimes hearing advice from someone who has already reached the level they dream about can mean just as much as learning a new move on the court.

Johnson’s appearance also represented something bigger than basketball—an opportunity to use his platform to connect with the community and potentially inspire the next generation.

Because while every kid inside Suwanee Sports Academy may not eventually hear their name called on NBA Draft night, the lessons surrounding hard work, confidence, perseverance and chasing a dream can travel far beyond the basketball court.

For one afternoon, they got the chance to learn those lessons alongside an Atlanta Hawk.
