Howard, Reese Make Dream History With Team USA Selections

ATLANTA — Two Atlanta Dream stars are taking their talents to the world stage.

Rhyne Howard and Angel Reese have been selected to the 2026 USA Basketball Women’s National Team, becoming the first two Atlanta Dream players to simultaneously represent the United States in a 5-on-5 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup or Olympic Games.

The duo will be part of the 12-player roster competing for a world championship this September in Berlin, Germany.

Howard and Reese helped Team USA secure its spot in the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup during the qualifying tournament in March. Now, they’ll have an opportunity to help the United States chase a fifth consecutive World Cup championship.

Their selections also make Howard and Reese just the second and third players in Dream franchise history to represent Atlanta on Team USA at either a FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup or Olympic Games.

Howard Returns to the World Stage

Howard is no stranger to wearing USA across her chest.

The four-time WNBA All-Star averaged 10.0 points per game during World Cup qualifying as Team USA rolled to a perfect 5-0 record.

Howard has been part of the USA Basketball pipeline throughout her career, winning three gold medals across U18, U19 and AmeriCup competition. She also earned a bronze medal in 3×3 basketball at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

And she’s putting together another impressive season in Atlanta.

Howard is averaging 17.0 points per game, ranking among the WNBA leaders in made three-pointers while also leading the league in steals.

Reese Earns First World Cup Selection

For Reese, this will be another first.

The three-time WNBA All-Star earns her first Women’s World Cup roster selection after averaging 6.8 points and a team-high 8.0 rebounds during qualifying in March.

Reese previously earned a silver medal with Team USA at the 2023 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup before making her senior national team debut earlier this year.

Her first season in Atlanta has only added to her growing résumé.

Reese is averaging a double-double while leading the WNBA in rebounding and double-doubles. Since joining the Dream, she has also become the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 1,000 career rebounds.

Now Howard and Reese will get the chance to make history together while representing both their country and the city of Atlanta.

Team USA has been placed in Group D alongside Czechia, Italy and China. The 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup will be played September 4-13 in Berlin, with the Americans looking to bring home another gold medal.

Before turning their attention to Team USA, Howard and Reese still have business to handle with the Dream.

The Atlanta Dream (19-11) return to action tonight, August 7, when they face the Washington Mystics (17-12). Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. ET as Atlanta looks to continue building momentum down the stretch of the regular season.
