Gray Climbs Dream Scoring List in Loss to Mystics

Allisha Gray moved into fourth place on the Dream’s all-time scoring list in Atlanta’s 79-74 loss to the Washington Mystics at CareFirst Arena on Friday.

Gray’s accomplishment was the highlight for the Dream, which fought back in the fourth quarter but couldn’t overcome a difficult first half. Atlanta shot just 26.2% before halftime, while Washington connected at a 51.6% clip to build a 12-point advantage.

The Dream showed some fight after the break and made a late push, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome. Atlanta finished the night shooting a season-low 32.5% from the field.

The loss dropped the Dream to 19-12 on the season and marked Atlanta’s second defeat in its last three games.

Even in the loss, Gray continued adding her name to the Dream record books. The four-time WNBA All-Star moved into fourth place on Atlanta’s all-time scoring list, adding another milestone to what has been one of the most accomplished careers in franchise history.

Gray led Atlanta with 26 points, six rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block. It marked her 15th game this season with at least 20 points.

Rhyne Howard added 19 points, three rebounds and a team-high three blocks. Howard now has 28 blocks this season, setting a new personal career high for blocks in a single season.

Jordin Canada finished with nine points, three rebounds, seven assists and two steals. Canada has now recorded at least five assists in 27 of her 31 games this season.

Angel Reese continued to make her presence felt on the glass, pulling down 16 rebounds to go along with seven points, two assists, two steals and one block.

Naz Hillmon finished with five points, four rebounds and one assist, while Brionna Jones contributed four points, seven rebounds, three assists and one block off the bench.

Atlanta started Canada, Gray, Howard, Hillmon and Reese. That starting five is now 19-8 this season.

The loss moved the Dream’s all-time record against Washington to 33-36 overall and 14-22 on the road.

Atlanta will be back in action Monday, August 10, when the Dream take on the Toronto Tempo. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. ET.
