Jonathan Ransom Earns Canada U-20 Call-Up for Concacaf Championship

Atlanta United 2 goalkeeper Jonathan Ransom has earned another opportunity on the international stage.

Canada Soccer announced that the 18-year-old goalkeeper has been named to Canada’s Under-20 Men’s National Team roster for the 2026 Concacaf U-20 Championship, which will be held July 24 through Aug. 9 in Mexico. Ransom becomes the second Atlanta player selected for the tournament, joining Cooper Sanchez, who was previously named to the United States Under-19 National Team.

The tournament carries significant stakes, serving as the qualifying competition for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, and the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

Before departing for international duty, Ransom will be available for Atlanta United 2’s MLS NEXT Pro match against Huntsville City FC.

Canada has been drawn into Group C alongside Honduras, Panama, and Jamaica. The Canadians open tournament play against Panama on July 25 before facing Honduras on July 28 and Jamaica on July 31. All three group-stage matches will be played at Estadio Universitario BUAP in Puebla, Mexico.

The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-place finishers, will advance to the quarterfinals. The four quarterfinal winners will secure berths in both the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup and the 2027 Pan American Games. The tournament then shifts to the historic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City for the semifinals on Aug. 7 and the championship match on Aug. 9. The tournament champion will also qualify for the 2028 Summer Olympics, unless the United States wins the competition, in which case the Olympic berth will be awarded to the runner-up.

Ransom has continued to develop into one of Atlanta United’s top young prospects. He signed with ATL UTD 2 in October 2025 through the 2026 MLS NEXT Pro season and is set to officially become a Homegrown player on Jan. 1, 2027.

Since making his professional debut against Inter Miami CF II on June 30, 2023, Ransom has made 25 starts while recording 80 saves and four clean sheets. In May 2025, he became the youngest goalkeeper in ATL UTD 2 history to record a professional clean sheet after a 3-0 victory over Orlando City B. His strong performances also earned him a selection to the 2025 MLS NEXT All-Star Game.

The young goalkeeper has continued that momentum in 2026, starting 10 matches while posting a career-best two clean sheets and a 66 percent save percentage.

Internationally, Ransom has already built an impressive résumé. He represented Canada at the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, starting all four matches while making 18 saves, including a clean sheet against France. Earlier this summer, he made his Canada Under-20 debut at the Maurice Revello Tournament in France, recording three saves against Japan.
