Dream Sweep Tempo in 107-95 Win

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Dream continued to roll, completing the season sweep of the expansion Toronto Tempo behind another balanced offensive performance and a milestone-filled night.

Atlanta defeated Toronto 107-95, improving to a perfect 4-0 all-time against the Tempo and 2-0 at home. With the win, the Dream officially swept Toronto in the franchise’s inaugural WNBA season.

The Dream opened the game with its familiar starting five of Jordin Canada, Allisha Gray, Rhyne Howard, Naz Hillmon and Angel Reese, a group that improved to 20-8 together this season.

Atlanta held a narrow 24-22 advantage after the opening quarter before turning things up in the second. The Dream took control on both ends of the floor and carried a commanding 54-39 lead into halftime.

Toronto attempted to fight its way back, but Atlanta continued to have answers. The Dream entered the fourth leading 80-67 and never relinquished control.

It was another night where Atlanta’s depth was on full display. Canada, Gray, Howard, Reese, Hillmon and Bri Jones all finished in double figures, marking the fourth time this season Atlanta has had six players score at least 10 points.

The Dream also connected on 14 three-pointers, tying their season high.

Rhyne Howard led Atlanta with 22 points while adding seven assists, four rebounds, three steals and a block. Howard was on fire from beyond the arc, knocking down a team-high six three-pointers. The performance marked her 11th 20-point game of the season.

Howard also became the fastest player in the league to record 100 made three-pointers, accomplishing the feat in just 31 games.

Angel Reese added another page to the Dream record book, finishing with 20 points and 14 rebounds to record her 22nd double-double of the season, making her the Dream’s new single-season franchise leader in double-doubles.

Reese, who currently leads the WNBA in double-doubles this season, also recorded her seventh game with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds. She added two assists, one steal and one block.

Jordin Canada was everywhere for Atlanta, finishing just one assist shy of a double-double with 20 points, nine assists and six rebounds.

Canada also reached another career milestone, surpassing 2,500 career points during the victory. Her nine assists marked her 28th game this season with at least five assists.

While Howard, Canada and Reese each crossed the 20-point mark, Bri Jones gave the Dream a major boost with one of her most efficient performances of the season. Jones was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field, finishing with a season-high 15 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Allisha Gray added 15 points, five assists, three rebounds and a block, while Naz Hillmon contributed 11 points, five rebounds and three assists. Hillmon also recorded the 100th steal of her career with her first takeaway of the night.

The milestones weren’t limited to the players. With the victory, Dream Head Coach Karl Smesko earned his 50th career WNBA win, adding another accomplishment to his tenure in Atlanta.

With six players in double figures, three 20-point scorers, 14 made threes and several individual milestones, the Dream delivered another complete offensive performance.

And against Toronto this season, Atlanta left no doubt.

Four meetings. Four Dream wins. Season sweep complete.

Rhyne Howard finished with 22 points, four rebounds, seven assists, three steals and one block. Jordin Canada added 20 points, six rebounds, nine assists and one steal. Angel Reese recorded 20 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block. Allisha Gray finished with 15 points, three rebounds, five assists and one block. Bri Jones added 15 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal, while Naz Hillmon finished with 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and one steal.

The Dream will now turn their attention to the Connecticut Sun on Thursday, August 13. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
