The Atlanta Vibe continue to make noise both on and off the court, and on Wednesday, opposite hitter Aiko Jones was recognized as Major League Volleyball’s 2026 Most Inspirational Player.
For Jones, the honor represents much more than stats or accolades. It’s the latest chapter in a journey built on perseverance, self-belief, and carving a path that looked different from most elite athletes.
A native of Jamaica, Jones did not grow up playing club volleyball like many top players across the United States. Instead, her love for the game started in a much simpler way — watching her parents play in the front yard and training alongside her mother’s team on outdoor asphalt courts back home on the island. From those humble beginnings, Jones developed into one of the most impactful players in Major League Volleyball.
After helping lead the University of Louisville to back-to-back Final Four appearances in 2021 and 2022, Jones entered the professional ranks last season as the first Jamaican-born player in MLV history. During her rookie season, she primarily came off the bench, but over the past year, her game has evolved dramatically.
What once made Jones a feared blocker has now transformed into a complete all-around presence for Atlanta. Her growth has been fueled by relentless work ethic, confidence, and a willingness to keep improving every aspect of her game.
Jones also earned her first MLV All-Star selection this season while becoming one of the Vibe’s top offensive weapons. She finished sixth in the league in kills with 314 and seventh overall in total points with 362. Along with her offensive production, Jones added 215 digs, 37 blocks, 16 assists, and 11 service aces during the 2026 campaign.
“I am humbled, not only to receive this award, but to play with and learn from some of the best volleyball players in the world. I am so grateful,” Jones said. “This award is for every little girl whose journey looked different. For every athlete who’s felt like they don’t belong. This is an honor that I will cherish forever.”
Jones approaches the game with a mindset she describes simply as “jump high and hit hard.” But that mentality extends beyond volleyball. It reflects the way she attacks growth, embraces challenges, and continues putting in the work every single day.
That dedication showed throughout the season. Jones recorded a career-high 24 kills against the Grand Rapids Rise on March 13 and posted 11 matches with at least 15 kills. Defensively, she also set a career-best with 16 digs against the Columbus Fury on January 8.
Beyond her production on the floor, Jones has become one of the emotional leaders for Atlanta. Teammates consistently feed off her energy, encouragement, and positivity, especially during difficult stretches of matches.
Off the court, Jones remains heavily involved in community initiatives with the Vibe while also helping mentor young athletes as an assistant coach at Bellarmine University during the offseason. Her creativity extends beyond volleyball as well, as Jones is also passionate about storytelling, writing, photography, and videography.
Whether she’s competing in front of packed arenas, mentoring younger players, or inspiring others through her own story, Jones continues to lead with purpose. Her rise from asphalt courts in Jamaica to becoming one of Major League Volleyball’s most inspirational figures is proof that belief, resilience, and hard work can create something powerful.
