Vibe Hit the Road for Meaningful Showdown with Omaha

The Atlanta Vibe return to action Thursday night with a road trip to face the Omaha Supernovas, looking to regain momentum after a tough stretch and rekindle the form that earned them an earlier victory in the matchup.

Atlanta enters the contest at 5–6 following a four-set loss to the Indy Ignite on February 21 — a match defined by narrow margins and missed opportunities late in sets. Now, the Vibe face a familiar opponent in Omaha, a team they edged in a five-set thriller back on January 16.

Omaha brings a 7–6 record into the contest, setting up a matchup between two teams hovering around the middle of the standings and eager to climb.

Beyond the standings, this meeting carries a web of personal connections that add extra intrigue.

Head coach Kayla Banwarth returns to a state where she has deep roots. A former University of Nebraska standout, Banwarth later helped guide the Huskers to a national championship as part of the coaching staff, cementing her ties to one of college volleyball’s premier programs.

Atlanta’s leadership group also includes a key figure with direct history in Omaha. General Manager and Assistant Coach Laura “Bird” Kuhn previously led the Supernovas from the sideline, compiling an impressive record and delivering the franchise’s championship season in 2024. Her familiarity with the organization and its personnel could provide valuable insight for Atlanta in a tightly contested matchup.

Rookie outside hitter Ava Martin adds another local storyline. Before beginning her professional career, Martin starred at Creighton University in Omaha, making Thursday’s contest a return to a city where she built her collegiate reputation.

For Atlanta, the focus will be on execution — particularly closing sets and sustaining offensive rhythm. The Vibe have shown the ability to compete with anyone on their schedule but are still searching for consistency across entire matches.

A victory on the road against a winning team would not only even the season series but also provide a crucial boost as the campaign moves deeper into its grind.

First serve is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET Thursday night.
