Game 3 Hawks cut series 2-1 with 130-122 victory vs Celtics

In front of a sold out crowd the Hawks returned to home court to take on the Boston Celtics in the third game of the opening round of the 2023 NBA Eastern Conference Playoffs at State Farm Arena on Friday, April 21.

In Game 2 matchup against Boston, Dejounte Murray notched a playoff career-high 29 points on 11-24 shooting from the field, in addition to a 7-13 clip from deep, six rebounds, a team-high tying six assists and a game-high four steals in 40 minutes.

In game 1 Murray, finished with 24 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals, marking the first Hawks player in franchise playoff history to have back-to-back games of at least 20 points, five rebounds and five assists, while swiping three-or-more steals. Murray’s seven three-pointers in Game 2 marked the second-most made three-pointers in a Hawks playoff game in postseason history: 8 (Mookie Blaylock, 5/8/97), 7 (Dejounte Murray, 4/18/23), 7 (Bogdan Bogdanovic: 7/1/21), 7 (Steve Smith, 5/13/96).

 

Trae Young entered Friday’s game with 578 career playoff points and 196 career playoff assists.

In the end Atlanta walked away with a 130-122 victory.

 


Atlanta had seven players score in double digits, matching their franchise high in the postseason.

Trae led the team in scoring his ninth 30+ point playoff game, with a game-high 32 points on 12-22 from the field and 6-6 from the line, adding 9 assists, 6 rebounds.

Dejounte Murray collected 25 points, adding 6 assists and 6 rebounds. The 6-4 guard is the first Hawks player to record at least 20 points, five rebounds and five assists in three straight playoff games since Pete Maravich in 1973.

Saddiq Bey and Bogi poured in 15 points a piece. While Dre netted 11 points, and 2 rebounds.

While both Clint Capela and Jalen Johnson rounded of the scoring efforts with 10 points a piece, marking Capela’s 24th career playoff double-double, with his 10 points on 5-8 shooting and 11 rebounds.

The first time in NBA postseason history that a bench has scored 40 PTS on 70%/80%/100% This season, the club recorded a franchise-record 38 sellouts at State Farm Arena, topping the previous record of 25 set in the 2014-15.

“We stayed aggressive and kept playing. We were awarded for it.” said head coach Quin Snyder.
