The Atlanta Hawks have added another promising young piece to their backcourt.
On Tuesday, Atlanta announced it has acquired guard Devin Carter and a 2033 second-round draft pick from the Sacramento Kings in exchange for the draft rights to Alpha Kaba, the 60th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.
The move brings in a former lottery pick who showed flashes of his potential during the 2025-26 season.
Carter appeared in 38 games, making 12 starts for Sacramento, and averaged 8.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in 18.4 minutes per game. His breakout performance came on March 10 against the Indiana Pacers when he erupted for 24 points, scoring 22 points in the fourth quarter while shooting an impressive 8-of-11 from the field. He became one of just seven NBA players last season to score at least 22 points in a single fourth quarter and only the 10th Kings player in the play-by-play era to record a 20-point fourth quarter.
The Kings selected Carter with the 13th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, and over his first two NBA seasons, he appeared in 74 games, averaging 6.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists while providing energy on both ends of the floor.
Carter has also excelled in the NBA G League, where he averaged 24.9 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.0 block across 10 career games, highlighting the all-around skill set that made him a first-round selection.
Before entering the NBA, Carter spent one season at South Carolina before transferring to Providence, where he blossomed into one of college basketball’s top players. During his final collegiate season, he averaged 19.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists while earning 2024 BIG EAST Player of the Year honors.
The Miami, Florida native now joins a Hawks team that has emphasized adding young, athletic talent this offseason. With his defensive intensity, rebounding ability from the guard position, and developing offensive game, Carter will have an opportunity to compete for minutes as Atlanta continues to build its roster heading into the 2026-27 season.
The trade also gives the Hawks additional future draft capital with the acquisition of Sacramento’s 2033 second-round pick.
