Atlanta Hawks Add Size and Versatility, Acquire Jock Landale; Waive Duop Reath

The Atlanta Hawks are making moves in the frontcourt. The team announced today the acquisition of center Jock Landale from the Utah Jazz in exchange for cash considerations, while also requesting waivers on center Duop Reath, who was acquired just last week on February 1 from the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Vit Krejci.

Landale, a 6-foot-11 Australian, brings size, shooting, and rebounding to the Hawks’ lineup. This season with Memphis, he’s appeared in 45 games, 25 starts, averaging career highs of 11.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in just over 23 minutes per game. He’s been a force on the offensive boards, grabbing 3.1 per game, ranking ninth in the NBA, and tying with Steven Adams for the fifth-most games with at least six offensive rebounds this season. His 12.1% offensive rebound rate ranks fourth among all players with similar minutes.

Landale can stretch the floor too—he’s hitting 38% from deep, ranking fifth among qualifying centers, and has posted seven double-doubles, already a career high. A highlight came on December 17 at Minnesota, when he notched 20 points, 10 rebounds, 4 threes, 3 assists, 2 steals, and a block in 30 minutes.

He also brings experience. Landale has played 266 career NBA games across San Antonio, Phoenix, Houston, and Memphis, including eight playoff appearances. Internationally, he’s represented Australia, earning a Bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and competing in the 2024 Paris Games alongside Hawks guard Dyson Daniels.

Landale’s basketball journey began at St. Mary’s (CA), where he was named West Coast Conference Player of the Year in his senior season, before playing professionally overseas in Serbia, Lithuania, and Melbourne, where he won an NBL MVP in 2021.

The Hawks have also been turning heads on the court. After defeating the Pacers 129–124 on Saturday, January 31, and taking down the Miami Heat 127–115 on Tuesday, February 3, Atlanta is back at home to face the Utah Jazz with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.

With Landale now in Atlanta, the Hawks add versatility, experience, and floor-spacing ability to the frontcourt, while moving on from Duop Reath, signaling a clear shift toward strengthening the roster as the playoff push intensifies.
