The Atlanta Falcons are kicking off something new and exciting: the inaugural Atlanta Falcons Girls Flag Football Week, running February 15–21. This weeklong celebration will bring the state’s top high school girls flag football athletes to IBM Performance Field in Flowery Branch for training, competition, and a chance to shine in a sport that’s growing faster than ever across Georgia.
The highlight of the week is the 2026 GACA Girls Flag Football All-Star Game on Saturday, February 21. About 60 players, handpicked by the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association, will battle it out in a four-team tournament at the Falcons’ indoor facility. But the week isn’t just about the game—on February 17, nearly 300 young athletes will get hands-on instruction at a Girls Flag Football Clinic, learning directly from Falcons Legends and local coaches, thanks to the support of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
Adding an international twist to the week, All-Star athletes will hear from Diana Flores, two-time World Champion quarterback of Mexico’s national flag football team and NFL Global Ambassador. Flores is one of the most recognized voices advocating for girls flag football around the world, offering inspiration to athletes who are helping grow the sport in Georgia.
“The Falcons have been committed to growing girls flag football in Georgia for years,” said Amanda Dinkel, Senior Director of Community Relations for the Falcons. “This week is a chance to celebrate the athletes and the momentum behind the sport. We’re proud to host these events at our facility and continue shining a light on the opportunities being created for girls statewide.”
And what a momentum surge it has been. Starting as a pilot program in 2018 with just 19 high schools in Gwinnett County, girls flag football has exploded in Georgia. By 2025, 307 high schools offered the sport, and an estimated 8,500 athletes are expected to compete this fall. The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation (AMBFF), in partnership with the Falcons, continues to provide grant funding for schools to start or grow programs—with nearly $2 million distributed to more than 300 schools last year alone.
This week also marks another milestone: the Georgia High School Association announced that the girls flag football state championships at Mercedes-Benz Stadium will now have their own standalone championship day, reflecting the sport’s rapid rise and expanding fanbase.
“Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is proud to continue empowering young female athletes,” said Linda Matzigkeit, Chief Administrative Officer. “Providing access to top athletic trainers and equipment helps make experiences like this possible. We’re excited to be part of a week that continues to elevate girls flag football in Georgia.”
Beyond the field, the Falcons are amplifying awareness across Metro Atlanta with billboards celebrating the sport’s growth and the young athletes behind it. Atlanta Falcons Girls Flag Football Week isn’t just a series of games—it’s a celebration of opportunity, athleticism, and the next generation of football stars.
