Vibe Rally to Defeat San Diego Mojo 3–1 at Home

The Atlanta Vibe won the final three sets to take down the San Diego Mojo at home Sunday, earning a 3–1 victory after dropping the opening frame.

San Diego (1–6) jumped out early with a 25–18 win in the first set, but Atlanta quickly flipped the script and never looked back.

Head coach Kayla Banwarth challenged her team with three simple goals heading into the match: find the good, celebrate each other hard, and lift one another up. As the match unfolded, Banwarth pointed to defensive adjustments and attacking the opposing block as the keys to raising the Vibe’s level of play.

“I’m proud that this group is going to continue to fight, continue to battle — and that’s the type of group I want to be around,” Banwarth said. “I’m proud of them and looking forward to building off this.”

Atlanta (3–4) stormed back in the second set with an emphatic 25–16 win, fueled by a balanced attack. Middle Blocker Raven Colvin recorded four kills, while Opposite Hitter Anna Dixon added five kills to even the match.

The third set was a point-for-point battle, with the Vibe edging out a 26–24 win behind six more kills from Dixon and six kills from Outside Hitter Leah Edmond. Edmond credited the collective offensive output for opening up opportunities across the net.

“You have moments where you saw the middles get kills in a row, the right side get kills in a row, the left side get kills in a row,” Edmond said. “I think that’s so cool to have so many people who can contribute at any time when you need them to.”

Atlanta sealed the victory in the fourth set behind Edmond’s six kills and a strong defensive effort, highlighted by Middle Blocker Khori Louis, who tallied two blocks in the final frame.

Dixon provided a spark off the bench after the opening set, finishing the match with 15 kills, two aces, and a block.

“My only thing coming in was to change the vibe on the court,” Dixon said. “What can I do to give energy to my teammates?”

Edmond led the Vibe with a team-high 18 kills and 16 digs, while rookie Averi Carlson recorded a career-high 50 assists and 22 digs. Carlson and fellow rookie Ava Martin were major contributors throughout the match, with Martin posting 12 kills and five digs in the first complete match of her professional career.

The Vibe hit the road next to face the Orlando Valkyries on Friday, February 6 at 7 p.m. ET.
