Hawks Hold Off Suns, Extend Historic Home Run

The Atlanta Hawks defended home court once again Friday night, knocking off the Phoenix Suns 110–103 on Jan. 23 at State Farm Arena and continuing what’s quietly become one of the strongest home stretches in franchise history.

With the win, Atlanta pushed its home winning streak against Phoenix to 12 straight games — tied for the fifth-longest home streak versus a single opponent in Hawks history. And once again, it came on the back of balanced scoring, elite shooting, and relentless effort on both ends.

The Hawks were locked in from deep, shooting an even 50 percent (13-of-26) from three-point range. It marked Atlanta’s fourth game this season shooting 50 percent or better from beyond the arc. The makes also extended another impressive run: 38 consecutive games with 10-or-more three-pointers, now the third-longest active streak in the NBA.

Jalen Johnson was everywhere. The fourth-year forward finished with 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting, 18 rebounds and nine assists in 39 minutes, recording his league-leading 30th double-double of the season. It was also Johnson’s 29th career game with at least 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists — tying Dominique Wilkins for the fourth-most such performances in franchise history. Night after night, Johnson continues to anchor Atlanta with his versatility and presence.

Onyeka Okongwu delivered one of his most impactful outings of the season, leading the team with 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting to go along with five rebounds, five assists and two steals in 36 minutes. With 90 made three-pointers on the season, Okongwu officially passed Al Horford (88 in 2015–16) for the most threes by a center in a single season in Hawks history — another milestone in a breakout year.

CJ McCollum provided a steady scoring punch off the bench, pouring in 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting in 29 minutes. It marked his 17th 20-point performance of the season and the 422nd of his career, the 17th-most in the NBA since the 2013–14 season. McCollum has now scored in double figures in 34 straight games, continuing to be a consistent offensive force.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker chipped in 13 points, three assists, two steals and a block, extending his career-long streak to 38 straight games with at least one made three-pointer — tying Bogdan Bogdanović for the sixth-longest such streak in franchise history. Dyson Daniels added eight points, eight rebounds and four assists, continuing a career-best rebounding season, while Luke Kennard contributed nine points, six boards and four assists off the bench.

Phoenix was led by Devin Booker, who finished with 31 points on 12-of-21 shooting, including five triples, while Grayson Allen added 16 points and four steals. But every Suns push was met with an answer, as Atlanta controlled the tempo late and closed the door in front of the home crowd.

Next up, the Hawks stay at State Farm Arena for another home matchup, hosting the Indiana Pacers on Monday night as they look to keep the building rocking and the streaks alive.
