Hawks, Be The People Launch “Atlanta Changemakers” to Spotlight Service, Civic Pride

The Atlanta Hawks are tapping into what has always made this city special: people who step up and make a difference. On MLK Day 2026, the team officially launched Atlanta Changemakers, a new community-driven initiative in partnership with Be The People, a nationwide movement focused on turning civic pride into real action.

Unveiled during the Hawks’ annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Game, Atlanta Changemakers is rooted in Atlanta’s legacy of leadership and service. The goal is simple but powerful—celebrate those carrying the city forward today while encouraging fans across Georgia to get involved in their own communities through service, storytelling, and hands-on engagement.

The campaign’s debut centered on Martin Luther King III and Arndrea Waters King, who were honored as the first Atlanta Changemakers. The couple attended the MLK Day Game and were recognized for their work through Realize The Dream, a national effort calling on Americans to commit to 100 million hours of service by 2029, a milestone year that would mark Dr. King’s 100th birthday.

“Atlanta has always been driven by people who choose to lead through action,” King III and Arndrea Waters King shared, emphasizing that lasting progress comes from everyday service and collective responsibility.

As part of the initiative, Hawks Studios will produce a three-part documentary-style video series highlighting individuals who embody community impact. The first installment focuses on King III and Arndrea Waters King and their continued commitment to service and civic leadership.

Atlanta Changemakers will also shine a light on local heroes. Beginning on MLK Day and running through February 24, 2026, fans can nominate a changemaker making a positive impact in their community. One honoree will be recognized during the Hawks’ April 6, 2026 home game, with the grand prize including in-game recognition and a premium suite experience during the 2026–27 season. Nominations are open at bethepeople.org/atlchangemakers.

“This is about celebrating people who make Atlanta stronger every day,” said Hawks Chief Marketing Officer Melissa Proctor, encouraging fans to help identify leaders shaping the city’s future.

The campaign builds on the Hawks and State Farm Arena’s ongoing social impact work alongside Stand Together, a philanthropic organization focused on tackling systemic challenges by empowering local changemakers.

“Atlanta has always set the tone when it comes to leadership and community,” said Colette Weintraub of Stand Together, noting that the initiative uses sports and culture as a platform to elevate voices already making a difference.

At its core, Atlanta Changemakers is a reminder of who Atlanta has always been—a city that moves forward because its people show up. And now, the Hawks are inviting their fans to be part of that legacy, one act of service at a time.
