The Atlanta Falcons closed out Monday Night Football the hard way — by leaning on their defense, trusting their kicker and surviving until the final whistle.
After Zane Gonzalez drilled a 51-yard field goal with 25 seconds remaining, Atlanta’s defense slammed the door, forcing four straight incompletions from Matthew Stafford to seal a 27–24 win over the Los Angeles Rams at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The final sequence told the story. With the Rams pinned at their own 35 and no timeouts left, Stafford repeatedly tested Atlanta’s secondary deep. A.J. Terrell stayed glued to Puka Nacua on back-to-back throws, while Dee Alford and the rest of the defense refused to blink. Five seconds ticked away on the final incompletion, and the Falcons walked off with another gritty victory.
Atlanta put itself in position thanks to a methodical, clock-draining drive in the final minutes. Bijan Robinson once again carried the offense when it mattered most, ripping off tough yards on the ground before Gonzalez was called upon. From 51 yards out, the veteran kicker delivered — just as he’s done all season — pushing Atlanta ahead for good.
The Falcons built momentum earlier with explosive plays on both sides of the ball. Robinson opened the scoring with a short touchdown reception from Kirk Cousins, then later flipped the game on its head with a breathtaking 93-yard touchdown run that brought the stadium to its feet. Jessie Bates III added a momentum-swinging pick-six in the second quarter, and the defense consistently created pressure, sacks and takeaways to keep Stafford uncomfortable.
Still, it wasn’t without drama. A blocked field goal returned for a Rams touchdown tightened the game in the third quarter, and Los Angeles clawed back to tie it late. But when the game came down to execution in the final two minutes, Atlanta was sharper.
Cousins managed the game, Robinson powered the offense, and the defense finished the job — exactly the formula the Falcons have leaned on during this late-season stretch.
It wasn’t perfect. It was physical. And it was earned.
On a primetime stage, the Falcons showed resilience, composure and just enough firepower to outlast a playoff-caliber Rams team — sending the home crowd into the night with another reason to believe in how this season is finishing.
Next up, the Falcons will close out the regular season with a division matchup against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, January 4, with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m.
