Falcons Fall to Jets 27–24, Urgency for Change Deepens

The Atlanta Falcons let another winnable game slip away on Sunday, falling 27–24 to the New York Jets. With the loss, Atlanta’s playoff chances have effectively hit zero percent — even dipping into the negative with projections listing them at -1%. No matter how it’s calculated, the reality is the same: the postseason is out of reach, and the urgency for meaningful change inside the organization has never been higher. It’s now fair to question whether head coach Raheem Morris will still have his job by season’s end as the team continues to underperform despite having talent capable of more.

Atlanta opened the game strong, with the defense delivering one of its best halves of the season by holding the Jets to just 71 total yards. It was the lowest total allowed by the Falcons in any half this year. But the momentum didn’t last. As has happened too often, the second half brought missed opportunities, breakdowns, and a failure to close, allowing New York to surge late and take control.

Despite the loss, several Falcons delivered standout performances. Bijan Robinson put together one of the most complete games of his career, finishing with 23 carries for 142 rushing yards and a touchdown, along with five receptions for 51 yards. His 193 scrimmage yards were the second most in a single game of his career and his third game this season with at least 175 scrimmage yards — the most in the NFL. Robinson became just the second player in league history, joining LaDainian Tomlinson, to open his career with at least 55 receptions and 1,450 scrimmage yards in each of his first three seasons. His 1,589 scrimmage yards through 12 games are the most in Falcons history, and he also recorded his 30th career touchdown, becoming the fastest Falcon to ever reach that mark.

Tyler Allgeier added a one-yard touchdown in the final seconds of the first half, marking his eighth of the season. Allgeier and Robinson are now the only running back duo in the NFL with at least seven touchdowns each this season. Atlanta’s rookie pass rushers continued to shine as well. James Pearce Jr. extended his streak of games with at least one sack to four, the longest by a rookie this season and the first such streak by a rookie in franchise history. Pearce and Jalon Walker both sit at five sacks, making Atlanta one of only four teams in the last decade to have multiple rookies reach that number in the same season.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins completed 21 of 33 passes for 234 yards and a touchdown, posting a 94.8 passer rating. His nine-yard touchdown pass to David Sills V marked his 291st career passing touchdown, tying Warren Moon for the 16th most in NFL history. This game also marked Cousins’ 132nd career contest with at least 200 passing yards, tying him with Joe Flacco among active quarterbacks. Kyle Pitts delivered his best receiving performance of the season with seven catches for 82 yards, while Deven Thompkins recorded his first receptions of the year.

On defense, Divine Deablo led with eight tackles, including two for loss. Leonard Floyd added another sack, continuing his personal streak of recording a sack in each of his last four matchups against the Jets. Special teams also delivered strong moments. Kicker Zane Gonzalez drilled a 52-yard field goal, his fourth from 50 or more yards this season, while punter Bradley Pinion placed a career-best five punts inside the 20-yard line.

But despite the impressive individual numbers, the same issue remains: the Falcons cannot find ways to win close games. The roster is producing, the young talent is shining, and the offensive stars are delivering. Yet the results aren’t there. With playoff hopes officially gone, attention now shifts toward leadership, accountability, and the organization’s direction moving forward. The pressure is mounting for significant changes, and the question of whether Raheem Morris will remain at the helm is no longer avoidable.

The Falcons will return home to Mercedes-Benz Stadium to face the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, December 7, looking to salvage pride and find some stability as they enter the final stretch of the season.
