On Monday morning, the College Park Skyhawks and Attorney Ken Nugent wrapped up a special month-long book drive with a celebration at West Clayton Elementary School. Nugent donated enough books for every student to take home, along with additional books for the school’s media center, and presented a $5,528 check through his “Score for Schools” initiative.
The book drive, held during the final month of the Skyhawks’ season, ran across all six of the team’s home games in March. Fans stepped up in a big way, donating a total of 603 books to mark National Reading Month. On Monday, Nugent and the Skyhawks hand-delivered the books to West Clayton, where Nugent also took the time to read aloud to a classroom of students.
“Ken Nugent’s March book drive and ‘Score for Schools’ initiative have made a tremendous impact on our Colli’s Classroom program at West Clayton Elementary School,” said Janice Koon, Atlanta Hawks Senior Vice President of NBA G League and 2K League Operations. “To be able to play a role in each of the lives of West Clayton’s scholars and their educational journey is such an honor, and we are extremely appreciative of Ken’s partnership with the Skyhawks and West Clayton.”
The “Score for Schools” initiative tied donations directly to the Skyhawks’ performance, with Nugent pledging $1 for every point scored during the 2024–25 Tip-Off Tournament and regular season. The season-long effort raised $5,528 for West Clayton Elementary.
“As a lifelong reader and leader in the community, I am proud to support the College Park Skyhawks’ ‘Score for Schools’ and ‘Colli’s Classroom’ program at West Clayton Elementary,” said Nugent. “My grandfather instilled in me the love of books, and it is my hope that by participating in this program I can do the same for the kids of West Clayton and beyond.”
Now in its third year, the Skyhawks’ “Colli’s Classroom” program continues to create meaningful connections at West Clayton, impacting more than 490 students and 80 staff members throughout the school year. The team plans at least two events per month, ranging from P.E. takeovers and career expos to reading days, mentorship sessions, and holiday celebrations.
