Falcons and Titans Bring the Heat in Joint Practice at Flowery Branch

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans wasted no time turning up the intensity in their first joint practice ahead of Friday’s preseason matchup. Under steamy August conditions, both teams traded big plays, hard-fought reps, and plenty of competitive chatter — exactly the kind of atmosphere Head Coach Raheem Morris wanted.

From the opening whistle, the Falcons’ defense made its presence felt. Safety DeMarco Hellams continued his camp trend of high-energy play, breaking up passes over the middle and setting the tone in team drills. Linebacker Jalon Walker shined in run defense, plugging gaps against Tennessee’s physical ground attack.

On offense, quarterbacks Michael Penix Jr. and Kirk Cousins split reps, each looking to solidify their place in the depth chart. Tight ends and running backs were heavily featured in the passing game, producing several chunk plays against the Titans’ secondary.

The trenches provided some of the fiercest competition of the day. Newly signed center Jake Hanson rotated with the second unit, while linemen Brandon Dorlus and Zach Harrison showed the flexibility to move across multiple positions. The defensive front applied steady pressure in 11-on-11 work, testing Tennessee’s pass protection.

Morris’ attack-style front — a scheme built on adaptability and controlled aggression — was on full display, with defenders shifting to create mismatches. The coach praised his players for executing at a high level while keeping the work physical but safe.

Adding a personal touch to the day, Morris was spotted pre-practice sharing a handshake and a smile with former Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley, now with the Titans.

The teams will be back on the field Wednesday for another joint session, giving Atlanta more live-speed reps before Friday night’s preseason showdown at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
