Atlanta United walked away with a point on the road after battling to a 0-0 draw against D.C. United Saturday night at Audi Field. The result marked Atlanta’s second clean sheet of the season as the defense held strong, limiting D.C. to just one shot on target the entire match.
The first half was a defensive showdown, with neither side managing to register a shot on goal. Atlanta controlled nearly 60% of possession but couldn’t break through D.C.’s backline.
Atlanta’s best opportunity came early in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Alexey Miranchuk set up Latte Lath in the box, but his effort sailed over the crossbar. Six minutes later, Brooks Lennon whipped in a cross from the right side, finding Latte Lath, who headed it down for Miranchuk. His shot was blocked by a D.C. defender before it could test the goalkeeper.
Another chance came in the 74th minute when Pedro Amador connected with Saba Lobjanidze inside the box, but his shot went straight into the arms of Luis Barraza.
Head coach Ronny Deila made changes in the 76th minute, bringing on Tristan Muyumba and Matt Edwards for Mateusz Klich and Brooks Lennon to spark the attack. Later in the 88th minute, Jamal Thiaré and Luke Brennan entered the match for Alexey Miranchuk and Miguel Almirón as Atlanta pushed for a late winner.
Despite their efforts, neither team was able to find the back of the net as the match ended in a scoreless draw.
Atlanta United (4-10-6, 18 points) will be back on the road next Saturday, July 12, as they take on Toronto FC at BMO Field. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
