A few weeks ago, the Indiana Fever handed the Atlanta Dream an 83-71 loss (June 4.). On Thursday, the Dream got their revenge in Indianapolis with a 108-101 victory. On Saturday night at State Farm Arena, they made sure there would be no doubt.
The Dream put together one of their most complete performances of the season, rolling past the Fever 113-96 in front of a sold-out crowd of 17,044.
Indiana came out firing early, shooting 60 percent in the first quarter and taking a 37-30 lead behind Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell. It looked like the Fever might be headed toward another big offensive night.
Then Atlanta took control.
The Dream tightened up defensively in the second quarter while continuing to attack offensively, outscoring Indiana 26-22 to cut the deficit to just three at halftime. Coming out of the break, Atlanta completely changed the game.
The Dream exploded for 28 points in the third quarter while holding the Fever to just 15. By the time the fourth quarter arrived, Atlanta had turned a seven-point first-quarter deficit into an 84-74 advantage.
And they never looked back.
Atlanta shot 50 percent from the floor and knocked down 12 three-pointers while also winning the rebounding battle 35-30. The Dream were especially dominant in the paint, scoring 54 points inside and turning Indiana turnovers into easy transition opportunities.
Five Dream players scored in double figures, led by Rhyne Howard’s 24 points. Howard added four rebounds, three assists and knocked down four three-pointers while finishing a game-best +16.
Jordin Canada controlled the pace all night, finishing with 22 points and 12 assists. Allisha Gray added 19 points, Angel Reese recorded 18 points and nine rebounds, and Naz Hillmon chipped in 13 points.
The balanced attack has become a trademark for Atlanta. The starting lineup of Canada, Gray, Howard, Hillmon and Reese improved to 10-3 when playing together and continues to establish itself as one of the most dangerous units in the WNBA.
For Indiana, Caitlin Clark finished with 26 points and seven assists, while Aliyah Boston added 16 points and Kelsey Mitchell scored 13. But the Fever struggled to keep pace after halftime, committing 19 turnovers that Atlanta converted into 18 points.
The victory improves Atlanta to 11-4 on the season and gives the Dream back-to-back wins over Indiana after dropping the first meeting between the teams earlier this month. Atlanta has now won two straight against the Fever and continues to show why it belongs among the WNBA’s top contenders.
For one night, there was no late-game drama, no comeback attempt and no questions about who was the better team.
The Dream had all the answers. And this time, the Fever had no response.
Next Up: The Dream will remain at home as they welcome the Toronto Tempo to State Farm Arena on Monday, June 22. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. as Atlanta looks to continue its strong start to the season and extend its winning streak in front of the home crowd.
