The Atlanta Dream continue adding depth and international experience to the roster, announcing Wednesday the signing of forward Amy Okonkwo to a developmental contract.
Okonkwo most recently attended training camp with the Dallas Wings after signing a training camp contract ahead of the 2026 WNBA season. She also made an impressive impact during the 2025 season with Dallas, appearing in eight games while averaging 11.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game while shooting over 60 percent from the field.
The Nigerian forward quickly turned heads during her rookie campaign, including a career-high 20-point performance against Phoenix on Sept. 11, 2025. Okonkwo also made league history, becoming the first undrafted player since 2000 to average 10 or more points while shooting 60 percent or better through her first two WNBA games.
Internationally, Okonkwo has built an impressive résumé as one of Nigeria’s top players. She earned back-to-back FIBA Women’s AfroBasket MVP honors in 2023 and 2025 while helping lead Nigeria to consecutive gold medals on the international stage.
Before beginning her professional career, Okonkwo played collegiately at USC before transferring to TCU, where she earned Big 12 Sixth Player of the Year honors in 2018.
The move gives the Dream another versatile frontcourt option as Atlanta continues building depth early in the season. With the team already showing defensive toughness and physicality through its first two games, adding a player with Okonkwo’s international experience and scoring ability could provide another spark as the season progresses.
Atlanta has already shown it wants to compete with energy, toughness and versatility this season — and the addition of Okonkwo only adds to that identity.
