Jalen Johnson Named Eastern Conference Player of the Week as His Star Continues to Rise

Jalen Johnson’s run right now? Yeah… the league had no choice but to notice.

The Atlanta Hawks forward has been named NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, February 2 through Sunday, February 8, marking the second time this season Johnson has earned the honor. The first came back on November 17. This one feels like confirmation.

In three games last week, Johnson was everywhere—posting averages of 27.3 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 11.3 assists, while leading all Eastern Conference players in assists per game. He also ranked second in rebounds and third in scoring during that span, guiding Atlanta to a 2–1 record while logging heavy minutes and delivering consistently. Efficiently, too—shooting 54.4 percent from the field and knocking down 75 percent from the line.

And when the game tightened late? Johnson leveled up. In the second half alone across those three games, he averaged 18.7 points on nearly 65 percent shooting, along with 6.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists. That’s control. That’s trust. That’s a star understanding the moment.

The week started in Miami, where Johnson opened with a 29-point triple-double, adding 11 rebounds and 11 assists in a road win. He followed that up with another triple-double against Utah on February 5—22 points, 16 rebounds, 15 assists, and two blocks—a performance that placed him in some very exclusive company. Johnson became just the seventh player since 1976–77 with multiple career games of 20-plus points, 15-plus rebounds, and 15-plus assists, joining Nikola Jokic, Russell Westbrook, Luka Dončić, Magic Johnson, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Larry Bird. Casual company.

He closed the week just shy of another triple-double, pouring in 31 points, along with nine rebounds, eight assists, and three steals in 40 minutes on February 7. That marked his 10th game this season with at least 30 points, five rebounds, and five assists, the third-most such games in the Eastern Conference.

Zoom out, and the résumé gets even louder.

Johnson now owns 10 triple-doubles this season, the most in the Eastern Conference and second-most in the NBA, trailing only Jokic. Those 10 triple-doubles are also the most in a single season in franchise history—a mark no Hawk has ever reached in their entire career, let alone one season.

Through 49 games, all starts, the fifth-year forward is averaging career highs across the board: 23.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 8.2 assists, plus 1.3 steals per night. He’s one of just two players in the league averaging at least 23, 10, and eight, the other being Nikola Jokic.

Oh—and in case there was any doubt, Johnson is officially an NBA All-Star. He’ll also be taking part in the 2026 Kia Shooting Stars competition during All-Star Saturday.

This isn’t a hot stretch.

This is a statement.
