Gladiators Complete Comeback in 4–3 Overtime Win Against Icemen

The Atlanta Gladiators showed grit, determination, and a flair for drama Friday night at Gas South Arena, coming back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Jacksonville Icemen 4–3 in overtime.

Jacksonville jumped out of the gate, scoring just 1:08 into the game on a tip-in from Bennet MacArthur, and added another goal just four minutes later from James Hardie. The Icemen dominated the first period, outshooting Atlanta 12–7, and looked in control.

Atlanta responded in the second period, sparking a comeback led by Cody Sylvester, Jack O’Brien, and Alex Young. Sylvester opened the scoring at 2:21, followed by O’Brien at 8:24, and then Young tied it at 3-3 with a power-play goal off a broken stick—a quirky, unforgettable moment that energized the home crowd. The Gladiators outscored Jacksonville 3–1 in the middle frame to even the game.

The third period saw Atlanta press hard, keeping Jacksonville hemmed in their own zone and wearing down the Icemen. Goaltender T.J. Semptimphelter stopped 22 of 25 shots, and despite a strong third from Jacksonville, neither team could find the back of the net.

Overtime started with Jacksonville controlling the puck, but a key turnover allowed Ryan Francis to bury the game-winner off a feed from O’Brien and Nolan Orzeck, giving the Gladiators the hard-fought 4–3 victory. The goal marked Francis’ 4th of the season and 50th of his professional career.

Atlanta went 1-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill, improving to 30-10-1 on the season. The Gladiators look to keep the momentum going when they hit the road to face the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on Wednesday at Bon Secours Wellness Arena, with puck drop set for 7:05 PM EST.
