Pistons Halt Hawks’ Win Streak

The Atlanta Hawks saw their five-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday night, falling 120-112 to the Detroit Pistons at State Farm Arena. Despite a strong offensive showing and another high-assist performance, Atlanta couldn’t overcome Detroit’s late-game push.

The Hawks continued their unselfish play, dishing out 31 assists as a team — their league-leading ninth game this season with 30+ assists. Atlanta has now recorded 30 or more assists in six straight games, setting a new franchise record (previous streak: five games in 1993).

Dyson Daniels once again made defensive history. Daniels recorded three steals in the first quarter, marking his 64th career game with 3+ steals — and 52 of those have come as a Hawk, the most in the NBA over the last two seasons. He has now tallied at least one steal in 67 straight games, the fourth-longest streak in NBA history. Daniels finished with 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting, nine rebounds, six assists, and one block in 38 minutes.

Onyeka Okongwu continued his scoring surge, posting 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including 4-of-7 from deep, while adding three blocks. Okongwu also knocked down his 100th career three-pointer and has now scored 20+ points in four straight games, the longest such streak of his career.

Off the bench, Mouhamed Gueye delivered his best outing of the season, securing 11 points and a season-high 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the year (third of his career) in just 21 minutes.

Jalen Johnson remained the engine of Atlanta’s offense, finishing with 25 points, nine assists, eight rebounds, and three steals in 39 minutes. This marks his third game this season with 25+ points, 5+ boards, and 5+ assists.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker added 24 points, along with three rebounds and three assists, continuing his consistent scoring stretch.

On the other side, Detroit was powered by Cade Cunningham, who posted 25 points, 10 assists, six rebounds, and two steals. Jalen Duren also starred with 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block.

The Hawks will look to bounce back quickly.

Next up: Atlanta heads back on the road Thursday to face the San Antonio Spurs. The team returns to State Farm Arena on Sunday for a matchup against the Charlotte Hornets.
