The Atlanta Falcons have turned the page at kicker, signing Parker Romo to the active roster and releasing longtime veteran Younghoe Koo.
The move follows Koo’s crucial miss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 7 — a 44-yard attempt in the final seconds that could have forced overtime. Instead, the kick sailed wide, sealing the Falcons’ loss and, ultimately, Koo’s fate in Atlanta.
Koo, who joined the Falcons in 2019, became a fan favorite with his consistency and knack for clutch kicks. Over six seasons in Atlanta, he established himself as one of the NFL’s most accurate kickers, but after a rocky start to 2025 capped by the miss in Tampa, the team decided it was time for change.
That change arrives in the form of Parker Romo, a Peachtree City, Ga., native who has bounced around the league since entering as an undrafted free agent with the New Orleans Saints in 2022. Romo has spent time with the Lions, Bears, Vikings, and Patriots, and most notably appeared in four games for Minnesota in 2024, hitting 11-of-12 field goals including a career-long 55-yarder. He was also 7-of-8 on extra points.
Falcons fans already saw Romo’s leg earlier this season. Elevated from the practice squad in Week 2 against Minnesota, he went a perfect 5-for-5 with makes from 38, 29, 33, 33, and 54 yards.
For the Falcons, the decision represents both the end of an era and a fresh start. Koo leaves Atlanta as one of the most accurate and beloved kickers in franchise history, but the team is banking on Romo’s big leg and steady confidence to carry them forward.
The Falcons are on the road tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 20, to take on the Carolina Panthers. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m
