The College Park Skyhawks, NBA G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks, know that the game doesn’t stop at the buzzer—it extends into the classroom, the community, and even the careers of families. On Thursday night, the Skyhawks partnered with Goodwill of North Georgia to supercharge West Clayton Elementary School’s “Curriculum Night.”
The event wasn’t just about handing out syllabi and homework policies. It was about reinforcing West Clayton’s role as more than a school—it’s a hub for academic and family well-being. And the Skyhawks showed up to underline their commitment to education, health, and wellness.
“Being able to connect with the parents of the students we see every month at West Clayton is a huge part of Colli’s Classroom program,” said Sadé Means, Manager of Community Impact for the Skyhawks. “To be able to partner with Goodwill of North Georgia really made an impact on the parents in attendance and was a fantastic way to kick off this first month of school with West Clayton.”
Goodwill rolled in with its Mobile Career Center, a career-services bus designed to put opportunity on wheels. Parents could hop aboard, tap into digital resources, explore job opportunities, and even connect with local employers. Inside: computer workstations, free job-skills workshops, and one-on-one career coaching—all tailored to help families take their next step forward.
This event also tipped off year three of “Colli’s Classroom,” the Skyhawks’ school adoption program at West Clayton. The goal: make an impact that lasts all school year for 490 students and 80 staff members. From P.E. takeovers and mentorship days to holiday events and career expos, the Skyhawks are set to bring two community-focused experiences to the school every month.
“Curriculum Night is a fantastic evening where we get to connect and form real bonds with the parents of our scholars,” said Zakiyya Whittle, Assistant Principal of West Clayton Elementary. “Goodwill of North Georgia’s presence amplified this to a step above, and the support from both them and the Skyhawks truly made a difference.”
The takeaway? When schools, nonprofits, and pro teams team up, the impact is bigger than any scoreboard can measure.
