Caitlin Clark Out for Remainder of the Season: “Minor setback for a MAJOR COMEBACK!!”

Caitlin Clark’s sophomore season has officially come to a heartbreaking end. Clark, 23, announced the devastating news on her social media accounts Thursday night.

“I had hoped to share a better update, but I will not be returning to play this season. I spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there, disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling. I want to thank everyone who had my back through all the uncertainty.”  Clark wrote.

The Indiana Fever guard’s second year in the WNBA was plagued with injuries from the start. After dealing with a left quad strain in May and a bone bruise during rehab, Clark went down with a groin injury on July 15 against the Connecticut Sun. She hasn’t seen the court since.

Even with limited appearances, the WNBA’s 2024 Rookie of the Year reminded everyone of her star power. In 13 games, Clark averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5 rebounds, showing flashes of her brilliance whenever she was able to suit up.

Her absence is a crushing blow for the Fever, who remain in playoff contention, and an even bigger loss for the league as a whole. Clark has already shifted the visibility of women’s basketball, and fans wasted no time sharing their disappointment. Many voiced their frustration on X (Twitter), with some pointing the finger at the league for not protecting what they call its “golden goose.”

The basketball world also rallied around her. LeBron James sent an encouraging message, calling it a “Minor setback for a MAJOR COMEBACK!!” Fever’s GM, Amber Cox, praised Clark’s relentless efforts during rehab and emphasized the organization’s focus on her long-term health.

While the setback is tough, Clark’s story is far from finished. With her competitive fire and relentless drive, the expectation is that she’ll return stronger than ever in 2026. For now, the Fever and their fans will have to push forward without her, holding onto hope for the day their star guard lights up the hardwood once again.
