The Atlanta Falcons continue to make moves following Week 1, adding depth on both sides of the ball as they prepare for their home matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
The Falcons have signed tight end Nick Muse to the active roster from the practice squad. In a corresponding move, Atlanta placed defensive tackle Da’Shawn Hand on the reserve/injured list.
Atlanta also added two experienced players to its practice squad, signing defensive end Drake Jackson and running back Khalil Herbert.
Muse’s promotion comes after the Falcons elevated him from the practice squad for their season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Originally selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the seventh round with the No. 227 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Muse appeared in 16 games with Minnesota. He has also spent time with the Detroit Lions, New York Jets, Los Angeles Rams and Arizona Cardinals.
Before entering the NFL, the Belmont, North Carolina, native played collegiately at William & Mary and South Carolina. Across five seasons, Muse totaled 101 receptions for 1,303 yards.
Jackson brings another pass-rushing option to Atlanta’s practice squad. The San Francisco 49ers selected the former USC standout in the second round with the No. 61 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Across three NFL seasons with San Francisco and Washington, Jackson has appeared in 26 games, recording 24 tackles, including 13 solo, along with six sacks, nine quarterback hits, nine passes defensed, five tackles for loss and one interception.
The addition of Herbert gives Atlanta an experienced option at running back.
Originally selected by the Chicago Bears in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Virginia Tech, Herbert has also spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals and New York Jets.
In 63 career games, including 13 starts, Herbert has recorded 416 carries for 1,957 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. He’s also contributed in the passing game with 54 receptions for 316 yards and two touchdowns.
The moves come as Atlanta looks to regroup following its 20-13 Week 1 loss to Pittsburgh. The Falcons’ defense held the Steelers to 226 total yards, but Atlanta now has to move forward without Hand while continuing to adjust its roster early in the season.
Muse’s move to the 53-man roster gives the Falcons a permanent addition at tight end, while Jackson and Herbert provide veteran depth on the practice squad as Atlanta enters Week 2.
