The Atlanta Dream put together one of the most dominant offensive performances in franchise history Thursday night, rolling past the Los Angeles Sparks 124-88 on the road.
Atlanta started Jordin Canada, Allisha Gray, Rhyne Howard, Naz Hillmon and Angel Reese, and that starting five improved to 23-8 this season. The win also moved the Dream’s all-time record against Los Angeles to 27-20 overall and 12-12 on the road.
From the opening tip, Atlanta’s offense was nearly unstoppable. The Dream finished with a franchise-record 124 points and a franchise-record 35 assists, while also setting a new team mark with 46 made field goals.
Atlanta shot a season-high 63.9% from the field, the second-highest shooting percentage in franchise history. The Dream scored 62 points in each half, marking their highest-scoring half of the season twice in the same game.
Atlanta was just as dangerous from beyond the arc, knocking down a season-high 16 three-pointers, the second-most in franchise history, while shooting a season-best 61.5% from three-point range.
And the production did not stop with the starters. The Dream bench poured in a season-high 42 points, while Atlanta finished with 56 points in the paint.
Every available player on the Dream roster scored. But one of the biggest stories of the night belonged to Angel Reese. Reese was perfect from the field, shooting 9-for-9, including 2-for-2 from three-point range, to finish with 20 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and three steals.
Her 9-for-9 performance set a new Atlanta Dream franchise record for most made field goals without a miss.
Reese also became the first player in WNBA history to record at least 15 points, five rebounds and five assists on 100% shooting in a first half.
She added another league record to her résumé by setting the WNBA single-season record for offensive rebounds with 173.
Reese also recorded her 25th double-double of the season, which currently leads the league, and posted her second consecutive game with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Rhyne Howard led Atlanta in scoring with 26 points, adding three rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Howard recorded her 19th game this season with at least three steals and the 21st 25-plus-point game of her career.
Naz Hillmon delivered one of her best all-around performances of the season, finishing with 14 points, five rebounds, three assists, one steal and a career-high four blocks.
Allisha Gray added 13 points and two assists, while Madina Okot contributed 12 points, six rebounds and two assists off the bench.
Canada once again controlled the offense, finishing with nine points, five rebounds and 11 assists.
It marked Canada’s eighth game this season with at least 10 assists. She also joined an elite group, becoming one of just 15 players in WNBA history to record 1,400 career assists and 400 steals. Canada became the second-fastest player to reach both marks and owns the second-best assist-to-turnover ratio among that group.
The win gave Atlanta another statement performance on the road and continued a strong stretch as the Dream push toward the postseason.
Atlanta now travels to Phoenix to face the Mercury on August 22, before returning to Los Angeles for another matchup with the Sparks on August 24.
Next up: The Dream will finally return home on Friday, August 28, to host the Portland Fire, followed by a matchup with the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday, August 30.
