Falcons Place Running Back Trey Sermon on Reserve/Injured List

The Atlanta Falcons have placed veteran running back Trey Sermon on the reserve/injured list, a move that impacts the team’s depth in the backfield as roster decisions continue ahead of the 2026 regular season.

Sermon, who signed with Atlanta on August 10, suffered an undisclosed injury that will sideline him for the entire 2026 season unless he is waived with an injury settlement. He spent just nine days on the active roster and appeared in one preseason game against the Denver Broncos, recording one carry for three yards.

Sermon had been competing for a role in Atlanta’s backfield during training camp and the preseason before the injury halted his push for a roster spot.

The transaction comes during a busy stretch of roster activity for Atlanta, which recently added veteran defensive end Za’Darius Smith and wide receiver Beaux Collins as the team continues evaluating personnel on both sides of the ball.

The Falcons are currently in Indianapolis for joint practices with the Colts, with the second session scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 20 at 3 p.m. The two teams will also meet in preseason action on Saturday, Aug. 22 at 1 p.m. ET at Lucas Oil Stadium.

With the regular season approaching, injuries and ongoing evaluations continue to shape Atlanta’s final roster decisions heading into Week 1.
