Atlanta United is giving another young homegrown talent an opportunity with the First Team.
The club announced Saturday that it has signed 17-year-old midfielder Ignacio Suarez-Couri to a Short-Term Agreement ahead of Atlanta United’s home match against Red Bull New York at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Suarez-Couri has already appeared on three MLS matchday rosters this season and remains eligible to be named to one more under the league’s Short-Term Agreement rules.
The Johns Creek, Georgia native has been part of the Atlanta United system since joining the club’s Academy in 2020. He signed with Atlanta United 2 in April 2025 and has continued to make an impression as one of the organization’s youngest rising players.
Suarez-Couri made his MLS debut on July 22, coming on as a substitute against Charlotte FC.
His development has also included several milestones with ATL UTD 2.
Last season, Suarez-Couri scored his first professional goal in a 4-1 victory over Inter Miami CF II. At just 16 years and 146 days old, he became the youngest player in Atlanta United 2 history to score a professional goal.
The midfielder has continued that progress in 2026, recording one goal and four assists in 17 appearances. Those five goal contributions made him the youngest ATL UTD 2 player to reach that mark in a single season during the MLS NEXT Pro era.
Suarez-Couri has also started gaining experience on the international stage. He made his debut for the United States U-17 National Team on June 7.
The short-term signing gives Atlanta additional midfield depth ahead of Saturday’s match, particularly with several players unavailable.
New signing Mauricio Amaro remains out while completing the visa process, while Jay Fortune is sidelined with a hamstring injury. Enea Mihaj will miss the match because of a red-card suspension, and Will Reilly is listed as questionable with an ankle injury.
Under MLS roster rules, clubs can sign eligible players age 25 or younger from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate to as many as four Short-Term Agreements during a season. A player can be named to four league match rosters under those agreements but can appear in no more than two MLS regular-season matches.
For Atlanta United, Suarez-Couri’s latest opportunity represents another example of the pathway from the Academy to ATL UTD 2 and ultimately the First Team.
And at only 17 years old, his story is just getting started.
Atlanta United hosts Red Bull New York Saturday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
