Dream Swept on West Coast Road Trip

The Atlanta Dream wrapped up their three-game West Coast road trip on a disappointing note, dropping all three contests as the team heads into a brief break before returning to action Thursday against the Washington Mystics.

After entering the trip with a 12-4 record, Atlanta fell to the Golden State Valkyries twice before closing the swing with a 105-90 loss to the Seattle Storm. Despite the skid, there were several individual milestones and bright spots for the Dream.

The Dream couldn’t slow down Seattle’s offense Saturday night, falling 105-90 at Climate Pledge Arena.

Seattle built an early eight-point lead after the first quarter and never looked back, outscoring Atlanta in every period to improve to 15-5 on the season.

Rhyne Howard once again led the Dream offensively, pouring in a game-high 27 points while adding three assists and a steal. Angel Reese continued her strong season with 17 points, nine rebounds and two steals, narrowly missing another double-double.

Allisha Gray added 15 points and reached another career milestone, surpassing 4,500 career points after scoring her ninth point of the night.

Jordin Canada finished with eight points, four rebounds and a game-high 10 assists, while rookie Isobel Borlase chipped in seven points.

The game also marked another milestone for rookie Madina Okot, who made the first start of her WNBA career. Amy Okonkwo also made her Atlanta Dream debut, scoring her first point in a Dream uniform.

Atlanta shot well from the free-throw line, knocking down 23 of 26 attempts, while forcing turnovers that led to 16 points and recording seven steals.

Heartbreaker in Golden State

One night earlier, Atlanta suffered a heartbreaking 78-75 loss to the Golden State Valkyries after leading for much of the contest.

Jordin Canada turned in one of her best performances of the season, scoring a season-high 23 points while shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. She also became 10th all-time in Atlanta Dream history with 117 career steals.

Angel Reese continued her dominant stretch with her 12th double-double of the season, finishing with 15 points, 12 rebounds and a career-high six steals.

Allisha Gray contributed 14 points, while Rhyne Howard added nine points and moved into third place on the Dream’s all-time scoring list with 2,631 career points, trailing only Tiffany Hayes and Angel McCoughtry.

Atlanta’s aggressive defense forced 18 turnovers and collected 14 steals, turning those opportunities into 20 points, but Golden State closed the game on a late run to escape with the victory.

Slow Start Costs Dream in Series Opener

The road trip began with a 77-66 loss to the Valkyries on June 24.

Atlanta struggled offensively through the first three quarters before closing with a strong 26-point fourth quarter that ultimately wasn’t enough to erase the deficit.

Rookie Madina Okot continued to impress, leading the Dream with 16 points and five rebounds for her second consecutive double-digit scoring performance.

Angel Reese posted her 11th double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds while adding four assists.

Rhyne Howard finished with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists, while Allisha Gray and Jordin Canada each scored eight points.

One bright spot was Atlanta’s transition game, where the Dream dominated fast-break scoring 18-2. The bench also contributed 22 points in the fourth quarter.

The Dream will look to snap their three-game losing streak when they continue their road trip against the Washington Mystics on Thursday, July 2, at CareFirst Arena.

Atlanta then returns home for a rematch with the Golden State Valkyries on Saturday, July 4, at State Farm Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
