ATLANTA — The Atlanta Dream continued their winning ways Monday night, defeating the Toronto Tempo 94-87 in front of a sellout crowd of 9,685 at State Farm Arena.
The victory improves Atlanta to 12-4 on the season and keeps its perfect record against the expansion Toronto Tempo intact at 2-0 overall and 1-0 at home. The Dream’s starting lineup of Jordin Canada, Allisha Gray, Rhyne Howard, Naz Hillmon, and Angel Reese also improved to 12-3 when taking the floor together.
Atlanta came out firing from the opening tip, dominating the first quarter 33-15 and never trailing throughout the contest. The Dream’s offensive explosion continued into the second quarter as they matched Toronto’s 26 points to take a commanding 59-41 lead into halftime, marking their highest-scoring first half of the season.
The Dream controlled the paint all night, scoring 50 points inside while receiving a major boost from the bench, which contributed 28 points. Atlanta also capitalized on second-chance opportunities, outscoring Toronto 18-6 in that category.
Five Dream players finished in double figures, led by Rhyne Howard’s 20-point performance. Howard knocked down a team-high five three-pointers while adding seven rebounds and one assist.
Allisha Gray continued her stellar two-way play, finishing with 18 points, three assists, and five steals, tying her career high in steals.
Rookie Madina Okot delivered one of the best performances of her young career, recording a career-high 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting while pulling down seven rebounds.
Jordin Canada once again orchestrated Atlanta’s offense, posting her second consecutive double-double with 11 points and 13 assists. The veteran point guard has now recorded back-to-back games with 10 or more assists.
Angel Reese narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with 11 points, nine rebounds, and two assists, while Naz Hillmon added six points and three rebounds.
Toronto mounted a push in the second half behind Marina Mabrey’s game-high 23 points and Isabelle Harrison’s 21-point, 10-rebound double-double, trimming a 23-point deficit to single digits late in the fourth quarter. However, Atlanta’s strong first-half performance proved to be enough to hold off the comeback attempt and secure the seven-point victory.
Next up, the Dream will have a quick turnaround as they hit the road on June 24 to take on the Golden State Valkyries. Tipoff is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. ET as Atlanta looks to continue its winning momentum and build on another impressive team performance.
