The Atlanta Falcons wrapped up their mandatory three-day minicamp this week, bringing an end to the team’s offseason program and providing a glimpse of what could be ahead for the 2026 season.
Under first-year head coach Kevin Stefanski, the Falcons will now break until training camp officially begins on July 29 at IBM Performance Field in Flowery Branch.
Several storylines emerged during minicamp, including the ongoing quarterback competition, impressive performances from rookies, roster additions, and encouraging progress from quarterback Michael Penix Jr.
Quarterback Competition Continues
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa received the majority of first-team reps throughout minicamp and appeared comfortable operating the offense, particularly during red-zone drills.
Tagovailoa showcased his accuracy and timing while connecting with several key targets, including tight end Kyle Pitts, wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus, and rookie playmaker Zachariah Branch.
While Tagovailoa currently appears to have a slight edge in the competition, the battle remains far from settled.
Penix continued to increase his workload as he works his way back from ACL surgery. Although he was held out of 11-on-11 team drills during minicamp, the second-year quarterback participated in individual work and remains optimistic about his recovery timeline.
“I expect to be ready,” Penix said, noting he anticipates being a full participant when training camp opens on July 29.
Branch Making Early Impact
One of the biggest standouts of minicamp was rookie wide receiver Zachariah Branch.
The third-round pick has quickly earned opportunities with the first-team offense and has consistently flashed the explosive playmaking ability that made him one of college football’s most dynamic athletes.
Branch highlighted minicamp with a touchdown reception during 7-on-7 drills and continues to build chemistry with the team’s quarterbacks heading into training camp.
Falcons Add UFL Talent
The Falcons also made several roster moves this week in an effort to strengthen depth ahead of camp.
Atlanta signed defensive ends Keshawn Banks and Devonnsha Maxwell, along with wide receiver Antwane Wells Jr., all of whom impressed during their time in the UFL.
The additions provide additional competition across multiple position groups as the roster battle intensifies heading into training camp.
Training Camp Dates Announced
The Falcons also released the schedule for the 2026 AT&T Atlanta Falcons Training Camp.
Fans will have 10 opportunities to attend open practices at IBM Performance Field, beginning with the annual “Back Together Saturday” event on August 1.
With minicamp now complete, the focus shifts toward training camp, where position battles will intensify and players will begin competing for spots on the final 53-man roster.
For now, the Falcons head into their summer break with optimism, momentum, and plenty of questions that will begin to be answered when training camp opens on July 29.
