Beyond the Court: Hawks, Kaiser Permanente Team Up

Starting this May and rolling into June, the Atlanta Hawks are stepping off the hardwood and into the community with purpose. Teaming up with Kaiser Permanente, the organization is hosting a three-part series of events centered on health, wellness, and making sure Atlanta shows up strong—mentally and physically.

This isn’t just about awareness. It’s about action.

Built around National Mental Health Awareness Month, the initiative is focused on closing gaps in healthcare access while creating real spaces for people to reset, recharge, and reconnect. It’s a continuation of what the Hawks have been leaning into—impact that goes beyond the game.

And they’re not doing it quietly.

Throughout the series, familiar faces like in-game host Shamea Morton and emcee Chris Marks will be on-site, helping bring energy to events designed to meet people where they are. Participants won’t just walk away inspired—they’ll leave equipped, with resources like Hawks at Home Workbooks, yoga mats, water bottles, and mental wellness kits.

“At the Hawks, we believe that community wellness goes far beyond the basketball court,” said Alexis Roe, Vice President of Community Impact. “By teaming up with Kaiser Permanente, we can provide truly holistic support to our neighbors across the city.”

It all tips off May 2 at the Andrew and Walter Young Family YMCA with “The Whole Women: Women of Color Wellness Experience.” Designed to uplift and empower nearly 100 women of color, the event centers on building sustainable habits and creating a space where wellness isn’t one-dimensional—it’s physical, mental, emotional, and financial.

From a keynote by Lovette Russell to a deep lineup of panelists across business, health, and culture, the goal is simple: create a room where growth feels possible and support feels real.

Then on May 6, the focus shifts to the next generation.

“The Wellness Huddle: A Youth Mental Wellness Summit” at Ron Anderson Recreation Center will bring together middle school students for an immersive experience built around emotional awareness and resilience. Through interactive stations, guided yoga, and reflection exercises, the event is designed to give young people tools they can actually use—not just hear about.

Because learning how to manage stress shouldn’t start when it’s already overwhelming.

The series wraps June 6 at State Farm Arena with “Real Talk, Real Strength: Men of Color Health Summit.” More than 90 men will come together for a day centered on connection, conversation, and growth. With themes like money, mindset, and masculinity, the event aims to break down barriers and open up dialogue that too often gets avoided.

It’s about showing up fully—and being supported when you do.

“At Kaiser Permanente, we believe mental wellness is a vital part of our shared humanity,” said Leslie Blair. “Through this partnership, we’re creating spaces where people feel seen, valued, and supported.”

Since joining forces in 2024, the Hawks and Kaiser Permanente have built something that’s starting to take shape across the city—programs that promote healthier living, stronger communities, and access to resources that matter.

This latest series is just another step in that direction.
