Whataburger, Kyle Pitts Surprise YMCA Campers

It wasn’t just another day at camp — it was the kind of afternoon kids will be talking about long after the week ended.

Last week Whataburger turned Spring Break Camp at the McCleskey-East Cobb Family YMCA into a full-on celebration, sponsoring the entire week for 60 Atlanta-area kids and making it completely free for families. The brand presented a $21,500 check to YMCA leadership, covering the full cost and removing barriers for families who otherwise might not have had access to the experience.

Then came the surprise.

Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts walked in.

With the Falcons preparing for the upcoming season, the timing couldn’t have been better — and the reaction was exactly what you’d expect. Lines formed instantly. Smiles got wider. Energy shot through the gym.

The day quickly turned into a high-energy mix of play, laughter and unforgettable moments.

Kids “oranged out” in Whataburger capes and sunglasses, creating a sea of bright color across the facility while enjoying meals from the Whataburger food truck and sipping Whatafreshers. The vibe felt more like a celebration than a typical camp day.

Pitts didn’t just show up — he jumped right in.

He raced campers, tossed the football around and took time with each kid waiting for an autograph, signing everything from capes to mini footballs. Nearby, Freddie the Falcon kept the energy high, dancing with campers, playing games and even climbing into the driver’s seat of the Whataburger food truck for a moment that had kids crowding around and laughing.

The check presentation anchored the day’s purpose, but what unfolded around it told the bigger story.

This was about access. About community. About showing up in a way that feels real.

For many of the campers, Spring Break became something bigger than just time off from school — it became a space where they felt seen, celebrated and part of something special.

And for a few hours in East Cobb, it felt like everything lined up just right — from the generosity behind the scenes to the joy on full display.

A simple idea turned into a powerful reminder: when community partners invest in kids, the impact shows up in every smile, every laugh and every memory made.
