The Atlanta Vibe fell 3-0 on the road at Indy Ignite on Sunday, dropping a hard-fought match where all three sets pushed deeper than the final score might suggest.
“When you have multiple pins firing the way that they were firing, that’s going to be hard for us to stop,” Atlanta head coach Kayla Banwarth said. “I wish we would have shown up a little bit more ready to play, so that part was disappointing, but we started battling there at the end of the second and I liked our fight to finish out the match from there on.”
Indy set the tone early, taking the opening set 25-19 to grab a 1-0 advantage.
The second set turned into a back-and-forth battle, with the Vibe and Ignite trading swings deep into extra points before Indy edged it 28-26 to go up 2-0.
Atlanta kept pushing in the third, again forcing an extended frame, but Indy closed the door with a 27-25 win to complete the sweep.
Despite the result, Atlanta had key individual performances across the board.
Outside hitter Taylor Smith led the way with 12 kills and 14 digs for her second straight double-double, continuing to show her two-way impact.
“My whole career, I’ve loved to go dig balls,” Smith said. “When I go back to serve, that’s when my mentality shifts.”
Opposite hitter Anna Dixon provided a spark off the bench, finishing with 11 kills and five digs while bringing energy in key moments.
“Every time I get subbed in, I’m like ‘OK, just be the spark plug,’” Dixon said. “I just need to bring the energy and let the game fall.”
Middle blocker Maggie Mendelson added a strong all-around effort with seven kills, two aces, two digs and a block.
Atlanta now turns its attention back home, returning to Gas South Arena on April 17 at 7 p.m. ET to host the San Diego Mojo.
