The Atlanta Hawks continue to build momentum at the right time.
Atlanta secured its seventh straight victory Tuesday night, defeating the Dallas Mavericks 124–112 at State Farm Arena. In a game that featured several momentum swings, the Hawks used a strong fourth quarter and timely defensive plays to pull away late and extend their winning streak.
From the opening tip, Atlanta played with pace and purpose. The Hawks jumped out to an early lead behind aggressive defense and fast-break opportunities. Jalen Johnson helped set the tone early, attacking the paint and pushing the tempo as Atlanta quickly established control.
Nickeil Alexander-Walker and CJ McCollum also played key roles in the first quarter. Alexander-Walker knocked down an early three-pointer and finished in transition, while McCollum added a mid-range jumper as Atlanta built a double-digit lead.
By the end of the first quarter, the Hawks had created separation with a balanced offensive attack and active defense.
Dallas responded in the second quarter, tightening the game behind contributions from several players including Cooper Flagg and Klay Thompson. The Mavericks began finding rhythm from the perimeter and attacking the paint, slowly chipping away at Atlanta’s lead.
Despite the push from Dallas, Atlanta maintained control heading into halftime thanks to steady playmaking from Dyson Daniels and interior scoring from Onyeka Okongwu.
The third quarter turned into a back-and-forth battle.
Dallas continued to apply pressure and briefly closed the gap with strong scoring from Thompson and Khris Middleton. However, Atlanta answered each run with timely baskets of its own.
Johnson remained a constant presence for the Hawks, finishing through contact and creating opportunities for teammates. Daniels contributed on both ends of the floor, pushing the pace offensively while disrupting passing lanes defensively.
Alexander-Walker also delivered several key baskets during the stretch, helping Atlanta keep its advantage heading into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter ultimately belonged to the Hawks.
With the Mavericks attempting to mount a comeback, Atlanta responded with a series of momentum-shifting plays. Johnson drilled a clutch three-pointer early in the period before attacking the rim to draw fouls and convert at the free-throw line.
Okongwu added a big three-pointer midway through the quarter, extending the Hawks’ lead and forcing Dallas to call timeout.
Moments later, Alexander-Walker knocked down another three following a strong sequence from Atlanta’s defense that forced a turnover. The defensive pressure continued to fuel Atlanta’s offense as the Hawks pushed the lead into double digits.
One of the biggest plays of the night came late in the game when Alexander-Walker picked off a pass and quickly found Johnson in transition. Johnson finished with an emphatic dunk, bringing the crowd to its feet and effectively sealing the victory.
Atlanta’s defense continued to hold firm down the stretch. Okongwu provided a key block inside, while Daniels and Alexander-Walker created additional pressure in the passing lanes.
The Hawks’ balanced scoring once again proved to be the difference. Johnson led the way with an all-around performance, contributing key points while also impacting the game as a rebounder and playmaker.
McCollum provided steady veteran scoring, while Alexander-Walker delivered timely perimeter shooting and defensive energy.
Okongwu anchored the paint with strong interior defense and scoring, while Daniels contributed with playmaking, rebounding, and transition opportunities.
Dallas received solid contributions from Flagg, Thompson, and Middleton, but the Mavericks struggled to slow Atlanta’s ball movement and transition offense.
In the final minutes, Atlanta continued to execute, protecting the lead and controlling the tempo until the final buzzer.
When the clock hit zero, the Hawks walked away with a 124–112 victory and their seventh straight win.
The win continues a strong stretch for Atlanta as the team builds confidence and chemistry on both ends of the floor. With the offense flowing and the defense generating turnovers, the Hawks are beginning to look like one of the more dangerous teams in the conference.
For Atlanta, the streak is about more than just wins — it’s about momentum.
And right now, the Hawks have plenty of it.
Next up, the Hawks return home Thursday, March 12 to take on the Brooklyn Nets at State Farm Arena.
