Hawks Drop Home Opener to Raptors, 138–118, at State Farm Arena

The Atlanta Hawks opened the 2025–26 regular season on Wednesday night at State Farm Arena, falling 138–118 to the Toronto Raptors. Despite the loss, the night featured several bright individual performances and a charged Opening Night atmosphere in front of an energetic home crowd.

In his Hawks debut, Kristaps Porziņģis delivered a strong first impression, posting 20 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two blocks in 25 minutes. The 7-foot-3 sharpshooter continued his historic stretch from deep, knocking down 4-of-7 from three, extending his streak to 33 consecutive games with at least one made triple — the second-longest active streak by any center and now tied for the eighth-longest by a center in NBA history (per Stathead). Porziņģis also registered two blocks, bringing his career total to 911, and he entered the night ranked sixth among all active players in career blocks per game (1.81 BPG).

Jalen Johnson set the tone early, pouring in 12 points in the opening quarter, tying the most he has ever scored in a single period. Johnson finished with a team-high 22 points, adding eight assists, seven rebounds, one steal and one block in 35 minutes — a full stat-sheet effort. It marked the 35th 20-point game of his career and his 96th career game in double figures.

Trae Young also tallied 22 points, to go with five assists, a rebound and a steal in 35 minutes. It marked Young’s 334th career game with at least 20 points and five assists, tying him with Nikola Jokić for the second-most such games in the league since 2018–19.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who has quietly become one of the NBA’s most durable guards, made his 187th consecutive regular-season appearance, tied for the third-longest active streak in the league.

Meanwhile, Dyson Daniels continued his defensive impact, recording two steals — his 60th multi-steal game as a Hawk. Daniels has now logged a steal in 53 straight regular season games, the second-longest streak in franchise history (trailing only Doc Rivers’ 61-game streak) and the longest active streak by any player since Victor Oladipo’s 64-game run from 2017–18.

Raptors Take Control Behind Balanced Attack

Toronto shot efficiently and controlled the second half, led by RJ Barrett’s 25 points (9-for-12 FG), eight rebounds and five assists in 29 minutes. Gradey Dick gave the Raptors a major lift off the bench, scoring 21 points on 6-of-10 shooting.

What’s Next

The Hawks won’t have long to regroup. Atlanta travels to Orlando to take on the Magic tomorrow night, before returning home on Saturday, Oct. 26, to face the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder at State Farm Arena.
