Atlanta United Closes 2025 Season with 1–1 Draw Against D.C. United

In front of 44,098 fans at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta United wrapped up its 2025 campaign with a 1–1 draw against D.C. United in the final match of the regular season. It was an emotional night in Atlanta, as Miguel Almirón delivered his sixth goal of the year and Brad Guzan made the final start of his storied career, exiting the pitch as the club’s all-time leader in appearances (262) across all competitions.

Atlanta wasted no time setting the tone. Just three minutes in, Alexey Miranchuk whipped in a cross from the right that was initially cleared, but only as far as Almirón. Waiting at the top of the box, the Paraguayan met it perfectly, smashing a left-footed half-volley into the bottom right corner to give the Five Stripes the early 1–0 lead and send the home crowd into a roar.

The first half’s biggest defensive moment came in the 25th minute. After an Atlanta corner, D.C. United countered quickly and created a dangerous break the other way. Christian Benteke slipped a ball through for Jared Stroud, who found himself one-on-one with Guzan—until Bartosz Slisz came flying in with a critical sliding block to erase the opportunity and preserve the lead going into the half.

D.C. United finally pulled level in the 67th minute. Benteke’s breakaway attempt forced a strong save from Guzan, and although João Peglow’s follow-up was blocked by Enea Mihaj, a third effort from Gabriel Pirani rolled into the bottom right corner to even the match at 1–1.

Atlanta nearly stole all three points late. In the 83rd minute, second-half substitute Saba Lobjanidze curled a dangerous free kick toward the bottom-left corner, only for Jordan Farr to push it away. Moments later on the ensuing corner, Lobjanidze created another golden chance, spinning his defender and firing a shot that was cleared off the line. VAR confirmed no goal, and despite a strong late push, Atlanta couldn’t find the winner in stoppage time.

The night—and the season—ended with the points split.

Atlanta closes the year with a 5-16-13 record (28 points). While the 2025 campaign didn’t produce the results the club hoped for, the evening belonged to Brad Guzan—a captain, a champion, and a club legend who leaves as Atlanta United’s all-time appearance leader and one of the foundational figures in the club’s history. He exits to a well-earned ovation from the Atlanta faithful that supported him from the club’s earliest chapters.
