Almirón Gives Back: $50K to Support Atlanta Kids & Families

Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almirón is continuing to make a difference off the pitch. This week, he visited two local nonprofits — Agape Youth and Family Center and CURE Childhood Cancer — while donating a combined $50,000 to support their missions.

For Almirón, giving back to the city that embraced him since his arrival in 2017 is deeply personal. The Paraguayan international has long made community service a priority, both in his hometown of Asunción through his foundation Sembrando Felicidad and here in Atlanta, where he’s spent two impactful stints with the Five Stripes.

“When I arrived in Atlanta in 2017, the city welcomed me and helped me when I was young. I’m forever grateful for that and want to try to return the affection that Atlanta has given me,” Almirón said.

On Sept. 17, Almirón surprised kids at Agape Youth and Family Center, spending time with them during after-school programming. Agape’s mission is to empower children and families from underserved communities, helping end generational poverty by offering academic support, life-skills training, and resources that inspire confidence and hope. The nonprofit currently serves more than 200 children and families across Atlanta.

“We are deeply honored to be chosen and seen by one of Atlanta’s finest athletes and a global soccer star,” said Agape CEO Nell Benn. “Miguel’s generosity and presence made an extraordinary impact on our students and families, reminding them that they are valued and their dreams matter.”

The following day, Sept. 18, Almirón visited the Arthur M. Blank Hospital, where he served dinner to pediatric cancer patients and their families. He partnered with CURE Childhood Cancer, a nonprofit that not only drives groundbreaking research for treatments and cures but also provides families with critical support in their most difficult moments.

“We are humbled and honored by Miguel Almirón’s support,” said CURE CEO Kristin Connor. “His gift will provide critical support to children with cancer and their families in their hardest moments and advance the research that can change their future. We are sincerely grateful.”

Almirón’s actions show that his commitment to Atlanta goes beyond soccer. For the midfielder, it’s about community, gratitude, and making sure the next generation has opportunities to thrive.
