Former Falcon Warrick Dunn Surprises Two Moms with Furnished Homes in Gwinnett

Former Atlanta Falcons star Warrick Dunn is continuing to change lives off the football field, this time in Gwinnett County. Through his Warrick Dunn Charities’ “Homes for the Holidays” program, Dunn surprised two single mothers who earned their homes through Habitat for Humanity with a generous gift—$10,000 worth of home furnishings to make their new houses feel like home.

The mothers, both of whom worked tirelessly to qualify for homeownership through Habitat for Humanity’s program, thought they were simply receiving the keys to their homes. But when they walked inside, they were met with fully furnished living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, and even special touches tailored for their families.

For Dunn, this mission has been personal since he founded the program more than two decades ago. After losing his mother, a Baton Rouge police officer, when he was just 18, Dunn stepped into a caretaker role for his siblings. He often shares that the experience fuels his desire to help single-parent households find stability and comfort.

Warrick founded Homes for the Holidays (HFTH) to honor his late mother Betty’s dream of homeownership. The program partners with local community organizations to reduce the burden on new single-parent homeowners by fully furnishing their homes, providing down payment assistance checks, and even stocking the pantry with food. HFTH was created from the belief that a better future starts with hope. In the wake of his mother’s death in 1993, Dunn had used her life insurance to purchase a home for his family—a lifelong dream of Betty’s. It was in that home that the Dunn family found healing and hope, inspiring a program that continues to impact lives today.

“To be able to walk these families into not just a house, but a home, that’s what this is all about,” Dunn said during the presentation. “They’ve worked so hard to get here, and this is a chance to give them a little peace and joy as they start this new chapter.”

The surprise in Gwinnett County marks another milestone for Dunn’s charity, which has now provided support for 243 families nationwide. His efforts go beyond just a financial contribution—he works hand-in-hand with community partners to ensure families have the foundation they need to thrive.

For the two mothers in Gwinnett, the moment was overwhelming. With tears flowing, they expressed gratitude not only for the furniture but also for the sense of security and dignity that comes with having a place that feels truly theirs.

Dunn’s legacy on the field may have been defined by touchdowns and yardage, but his legacy off the field continues to grow with every family he helps. For these two mothers and their children, his generosity turned an empty house into a warm home filled with hope.
