Atlanta United announced today that the club has signed 17-year-old defender Dominik Chong Qui to a Homegrown contract through the 2028 MLS season, with an option for 2029. The Alpharetta-native becomes the latest product of Atlanta’s Academy to make the leap to the First Team.
Chong Qui, who made his MLS starting debut last week in the 4-3 win over NYCFC, is now officially eligible for selection this weekend when Atlanta hosts FC Dallas on Saturday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Mercedes-Benz Stadium (MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, 92.9 The Game, La Mejor).
To make space on the club’s supplemental roster, Atlanta United has loaned midfielder Adyn Torres to Atlanta United 2 for the remainder of the season.
Chong Qui has steadily risen through the club’s pipeline. He made his MLS debut on March 1 against Charlotte FC, becoming the third-youngest player in club history to appear in a league match. This season, he’s already been called up the maximum four times via the league’s Short-Term Agreement provision, with his most notable performance coming in his starting debut last week, where he played 58 minutes at left back.
Originally signed to Atlanta United 2 on December 18, 2024, Chong Qui was set to become a Homegrown player on January 1, 2026. However, his accelerated development and First Team contributions prompted the club to move up his timeline. In 2024, he recorded 1,128 minutes across 17 appearances (12 starts) with ATL UTD 2, scoring two goals and earning MLS NEXT Pro Player of Matchweek 18 honors. His professional debut came last June in a road match at Orlando City B.
Chong Qui joined Atlanta United’s Academy in 2022 and played a key role on the U-16 squad that captured the 2023 MLS NEXT Cup Championship. Internationally, he is eligible to represent the United States and earned two caps with the U.S. U-18 National Team during the March FIFA international window, starting in matches against Morocco and Norway.
Atlanta United (2-2-2, 8 points) looks to build momentum when it returns home to face FC Dallas on Saturday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
