The Atlanta Vibe (6-8) put up a valiant fight but ultimately fell to the Orlando Valkyries (10-4) in a hard-fought five-set match at Addition Financial Arena on Saturday, March 1st. Despite an early 0-2 deficit, the Vibe stormed back to force a decisive fifth set, only to fall just short in a 13-15 finale.
Atlanta showed resilience after dropping the first two sets, rallying with an impressive blend of offensive firepower and defensive grit to even the match at 2-2. In the deciding set, the Vibe jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but Orlando clawed back to secure the victory.
Statistically, the match was as close as it gets. Atlanta finished with a hitting percentage of .281, just shy of Orlando’s .282. The offensive effort was led by opposite hitter Merritt Beason and outside hitters Pia Timmer and Leah Edmond, who recorded 16, 15, and 15 kills, respectively. Defensively, libero Morgan Hentz anchored the back row with a team-high 22 digs, continuing her dominant season as the league leader in digs per set. The Vibe also registered eight blocks, narrowly edging out Orlando’s seven.
Atlanta now looks ahead to its next match on Friday, March 7th, when the team returns home to face the Vegas Thrill for the fourth time this season. First serve is set for 7 p.m. EST at Gas South Arena for the Vibe’s Game Changers: Women Who Lead match, celebrating influential women in sports and leadership.
