TORONTO (April 15, 2023) — Atlanta United played Toronto FC to a 2-2 draw Saturday night at BMO Field behind goals from Giorgos Giakoumakis and Machop Chol. Giakoumakis scored in his fourth consecutive game, while Chol scored his first MLS goal.
Atlanta jumped ahead in the fourth minute when Giakoumakis scored off a Brooks Lennon corner kick. Lennon played an in-swinging ball that Giakoumakis headed from the corner of the six-yard box. His redirection was perfectly placed, just past the outstretched arm of Sean Johnson and underneath the crossbar to give Atlanta a 1-0 lead.
Chol gave Atlanta the lead in the 76th minute. Second-half substitute Andrew Gutman started the play by finding a wide-open Luiz Araújo near the corner. Araújo settled the ball down and crossed into the middle of the box, where Chol rose above everyone and headed to the far post to make it 2-1.
Atlanta United (4-1-3, 15 points) returns to action when it hosts Chicago Fire at Mercedes-Benz stadium on Sunday, April 23 4:30 p.m.
