Hawks fall to Boston by 9 points

The Hawks return to State Farm Arena on, tonight, to take on the Boston Celtics … Saturday’s contest marks Atlanta’s sixth game in nine days: 3/3 (vs. POR), 3/4 (at MIA), 3/6 (at MIA), 3/8 (at WAS), 3/10 (at WAS), 3/11 (vs. BOS) .

Prior to the game Atlanta was 3-2 in their last five games, including a two-game sweep over the Washington Wizards: 122-120 (3/8), 114-107 (3/10).

On the Hawks most recent 114-107 victory against Washington, the team connected on 15 three-pointers, behind six triples from Trae Young, four from Bogdan Bogdanovic and three from Saddiq Bey.

Saturday’s match with Boston marked the second of three games between these two clubs this season.

Even with the steady back and fourth each time the Hawks gave the adoring fans a glimpse of a possible win by shrinking the deficiency, the scoring always went back to a 9+ point lead in favor of Boston.

 

In the end Atlanta defense was lacking and Boston walked away with a 125-134 win.

Atlanta outscored Boston 20-5 in second chance points and outrebounded Boston 13-5 on the offensive glass . Atlanta also hit 70+ points in the paint for the fifth time this year, putting up 70 to Boston’s 62.

The Hawks had seven players score in double-digits for the eighth time this year and the third time in four games.

Trae Young notched his 61st career 30+ point, with his game high 35 points and 13 assists, the seventh-most such games in NBA history . It’s his 10th such game of the season, the most by any player in the East and tied for second-most in the NBA. Saddiq Bey collected 17 points behind four from beyond the arc (4-7 FGM), adding five rebounds and one steal in 26 minutes off the bench. Bey has knocked down at least three triples in 90 career games, the second-most such games by a member of the 2020 NBA Draft class, trailing only Anthony Edwards (102). De’Andre Hunter added 16 points on 7-12 from the field (.583%), in addition to three rebounds, two assists and one block in 39 minutes. Hunter passed Paul Millsap for 16th on the Hawks all-time triples list with his three-pointer at the 1:43 mark of the second quarter. Dejounte Murray finished with 14 points, four rebounds and four assists in addition to his three steals in 39 minutes. Marking his 29th multi-steal game of the season, swiping three steals in Saturday’s contest . His 29 2+ steal outings are the most in a Hawks single season since 2017-18 (Kent Bazemore, 30. Clint Capela gathered 12 points, while both Onyeka Okongwu and John Collins rounded off the scoring efforts with 11 points.
