Falcons fall to Chargers 20-17

On Sunday the lack of balance on offense was behind why Atlanta fell to the LA Chargers, 20-17 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

With Atlanta’s missed opportunity to win the game with a field goal, Ta’Quon Graham lost the handle and the ball was recovered by LA. The Chargers Cameron Dicker kicked the game-winner.

“We came back in the third quarter. I thought we played pretty well. Obviously, didn’t love the touchdown. I have to look at that. We overcame that, and then we got the fumble and then the turnover and came back and scored. So, a pretty short game. At the end, they made a play or two. So, whether you’re mixing up calls, at the end of the day, they executed better than we did down the stretch.”  stated Arthur Smith.

Six different Falcons defenders recorded six-or-more total tackles.

QB Marcus Mariota completed 12-of-23 pass attempts (52.2 percent) for 129 yards and a 68.9 passer rating. He also rushed for 24 yards on five carries (4.8 avg.).  RB Cordarrelle Patterson rushed for 44 yards on 13 carries (3.4 avg.) and two touchdowns, the fourth and fifth of the season and the 18th and 19th of his career marking the second time in his career he has scored multiple rushing touchdowns in a single game (Week 12 of 2021 vs. Jacksonville).

“Really, it just starts with me. I’ve got to do a better job of giving our guys opportunities to make plays. I thought our guys were winning on the back end. Just didn’t make some of the throws.” Said Marcus Mariota.

Up Next: Week 10, the dirty birds(4-5) look to reclaim first place in the NFC South standings when they face the Panthers in Charlotte, N.C, on Thursday. Atlanta is currently in a tie with Tampa Bay.
