The Atlanta Gladiators faced the Kelly Cup defending Champions the Florida Everblades on Friday for opening night at Gas South Arena.

The roster included 16 returners from last season’s group that finished second place in the ECHL’s South Division with 91 points. The roster also features five players on American Hockey League contracts with Atlanta’s affiliate, the Tucson Roadrunners.

Gladiators opened the scoring for the night with a goal by Kaid Oliver goal assisted by Cody Sylvester and Derek Topatigh.

A minute-and-a-half later, the Gladiators led the way with a goal scored by Reece Vitelli.

At the end of the 1st period Atlanta led Florida 3-0.
Atlanta found the back of the net again by Gabe Guertler, assisted by Tim Davidson and Kameron Kelly.
In the 2nd period the the Everglades finally scored a goal to trail the Gladiators 4-1.
After two periods of play Atlanta maintained the lead 4-1.

In the closing minutes of the third the Everblades Michael Neville scored their second goal of the night, to put the score at 2-4.
In the end Florida was left powerless, the Glads skated away with a 4-2 victory on Friday night.
