Philadelphia Union desperately tried to keep its place at the top. Still, Atlanta didn’t allow a shot on the goal and played to a scoreless draw at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday.
The game was important for both teams, but Atlanta’s head coach said he’s very proud overall of his players.
Atlanta’s defense and physicality held Phildeleipha to its lowest expected goals mark of the season.
Momentum swings in the first half worked in Atlanta’s favor when Juanjo Purata and Thiago Almada had shots to take the lead.

Atlanta produced a few threatening chances down the stretch, but ultimately they couldn’t put a shot on goal.
The draw keeps Atlanta’s playoff hopes alive as they head into their final two games of the season against New England and New York City.
Says Gonzalo Pineda, “The team did very well, and if we continue like this in the last few games, for sure we need two victories now and combined with other results, we can do it and make playoffs.”

Atlanta travels to Foxborough, Massachusetts, to face New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 1.
