Atlanta Clinched First Win Against Thunder Since 2016

What a moment for Trae Young. He finished with 41 points and eight assists in the Atlanta Hawks’ 136-118 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder.

For the first time in his NBA career, Young won in his home state. It was the Hawks first win in Oklahoma City since 2016.

Young received a lot of love from fans at the Paycom Center.

“There’s a lot of people here that I know. They show a lot of love when I come back,” said Young.

Young now has ten 40-point games this season. According to ESPN, Young is scoring 28.1 points per game with 3.8 rebounds and 9.6 assists.

The Hawks controlled the tempo of the entire game but it was the first quarter that set the tone. Oklahoma City trailed by 18 points at the end of the first quarter.

Postgame, Hawks coach Nate McMillan described the win as a way to send a message. “We established defense right from the start, the first quarter set the tone for the game,” said McMillan.

The Thunder were led by rookie Lindy Waters. Waters finished with 25 points and four rebounds.

Atlanta takes on the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight at 7:30 pm ET at the State Farm Arena. The Hawks won 124-116 in the last matchup.
